Port of Torbay
Torbay is a large natural harbour nestling within the Western shores of Lyme Bay. The mouth of the Bay is marked by Hope’s Nose to the north and Berry Head with its Napoleonic Fort to the south. Torbay provides a safe anchorage for a range of shipping needs.
It is strategically placed for various cruises – Round Britain, Trans-Atlantic and European positioning, 100 nautical miles from Southampton and 200 nautical miles from Dover. With tenders landing at Torquay harbour a visit to Torbay can offer a range of interesting excursion options, including themed cruises, gardens, National Trust and country houses.
With 16 square miles of open sea and 22 miles of coastline, Torbay Harbour is one of the countries finest coastal water sport locations. The Bay is home to the three enclosed harbours of Brixham, Torquay and Paignton, each with their individual appeal and identity.
Brixham harbour is an important fishing and is home to one of the countries largest fishing fleets. This Devon fishing port lands the highest valued catch in England and Wales. Across the Bay there are plenty of marine based leisure facilities including two large, privately operated Marinas, with yacht and small craft moorings populating all three enclosed harbours. Torbay’s location also delivers its own favourable micro-climate, which contributes towards the overall image of the ‘English Riviera’. The Bay is a popular stopover for small boats cruising the West Country and it is also the venue for a variety of prestigious Maritime Events throughout the summer season. The Harbour Authority is proud of Torbay Harbour and of the quality of service. Torbay ranks amongst the finest harbours in the country and we strive to maintain a high standard. We hope that you enjoy what Torbay has to offer.
