Lyme Regis to welcome its first Cruise call in 2012
The luxury expedition cruise ship, Silver Explorer, is set to visit the newly developed harbour of Lyme Regis in May 2012 and will continue its journey along the South West Coast calling at Dartmouth and then the Isles of Scilly.
The Historic town of Lyme Regis is centred along the Jurassic Coast - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - and is famous for its literary and film connections such as Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' and 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' by local author John Fowles - Both adapted on location for film and television and the Rosamunde Pilcher film ‘Half a World Away’ which was filmed at Ware House, the home of Mrs. Minnie Churchill, DL.
Her home overlooks Lyme Bay with the focal point of Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast of England. The house was also used as the main house in ‘The French Lieutenants Woman’, starring Meryl Streep.
Minnie Churchill is the Director of Churchill Heritage, which owns the copyright to the Paintings of Sir Winston Churchill. Minnie has recently published a book, with David Coombs, ‘Sir Winston Churchill’s Life Through his Paintings’ which reproduces 535 of his paintings. Tours and talks are available detailing how the area is connected to the Churchill Family.
