Port of Falmouth welcomes 2011 cruise seasonThe Port of Falmouth welcomed the 2011 cruise season with its first call on the 17th of April with Maritimes Ocean Countess on her round Britain voyage. The passengers came alongside in some glorious sunny weather, setting the mark for a great British summer to come; and what will be a successful season. Throughout the 2011 cruise season Falmouth is set to welcome over a massive 19,000 cruise passengers.

Many visitors are those cruising from the USA, Germany and throughout the UK. Indicating as ever that the South West of England remains a hotspot destination for the top 3 worldwide cruise markets. The Port of Falmouth’s cruise calendar includes calls from American line Princess Cruise’s Emerald Princess and Grand Princess; German line Sea Cloud Cruise’s Sea Cloud; and British line Hebridean Island Cruise’s Hebridean Princess.

This year stakeholders have pulled out all the stops to provide a warm welcome to cruise passengers ensuring that their experience of Falmouth is such that they will want to visit us time and time again. The Falmouth Cruise Ambassadors did a fantastic job in meeting and greeting all the passengers, all sporting brand new blue uniforms and handing out the new Town Map and new The Guide. Keith Collings, Port Ambassador at Falmouth said:

“The passengers are very surprised to find Port Ambassadors here to meet and greet them, as this does not happen in any other port in the country. We’re now known around the world as the pale blues”.

Many of the passengers chose to take the complimentary drop off and pick up shuttle bus to the town. Whereas others opted for one of the many shore excursion opportunities to a plethora of attractions within the surrounding region of Cornwall. Those cruising on the Ocean Countess chose to visit the world renowned The Eden Project, the 25 acre sub tropical gardens of Trebah, and Lands End, Britain’s mainland most westerly point.
