Business as usual for Port during Olympics

Portland Port will continue to operate as normal during the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Sailing events.

The Games which start in Weymouth and Portland’s Olympic waters at the end of July will not impact on the vessel services offered at Portland Port. Commercial activities will continue as normal during the sailing competitions.

The Olympic Sailing events take place between the 29th July – 11th August. The Paralympic sailing events take place from the 1st September – 6th September. During these dates there will be many Olympic Sailing boats out on the water, as well as security boats and other vessels. There will be certain restrictions in place for visiting boats during the games such as vessel movements, speed restrictions and viewing areas. Details can be found on the Portland Port website: www.portland-port.co.uk/leisure/olympics

Commercial vessels that use the Port for services such as bunkering, crew and stores transfers will continue to use the harbour as normal during the sailing events. Portland Harbour Authority requires that any sailing boats / small vessels using the Olympic waters keep a good look out for commercial vessels and keep clear of commercial operations.
