Broomhill lies in one of the most glorious valleys in North Devon surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland and bound by its own stream. The Broomhill Sculpture Park displays one of the largest permanent collections of contemporary art and sculpture in the South West. Three hundred sculptures by over 60 sculptors are sited in 10 acres of garden that present a wonderful balance between art and nature. Start your day at Broomhill with a mid-morning coffee or tea in the intimate restaurant or outside on the sun-warmed terrace.

Driftwood Gallery in Ilfracombe has recently relocated to much larger premises in St James Place, just around the corner from its original location. It’s large, light and airy, with beautiful artwork on display, both Originals and Limited Editions, glassware, sculpture and high end designer jewellery. There is a viewing area and much space allowing one to stand back and see the pieces easily, all on one level with wheelchair accessibility.

The Isles of Scilly attracts many artists who are lured to the islands by their sheer beauty, intensity of light and the effect it has on ever-changing seascapes and landscapes. Every island has its galleries and every island has its artists working in a variety of media. On St Mary’s, the Porthmellon Craft Workshop is a great place to see real artists and craftspeople at work. It houses a group of six working under one roof doing fused and stained glass, printmaking using linocut and screen-print methods, leatherwork, jewellery, journal making, fabric printing and silk painting. Guests on cruises are welcome to the browse the beautiful products and perhaps buy a Scilly keepsake. They are also welcome to participate in classes

 

The Minack Theatre

Carved into the cliff edge of Porthcurno, is Cornwall’s world famous open air theatre. Rowena Cade built the arena to run her beloved plays into the style of a roman amphitheatre, with surrounding views of the Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop. The theatre runs spectacular plays, musicals and opera from May to September.
